Day 1: Sunset Wallpaper
2026-02-07
Hello! It's the start of a new project!
This is an old photo, but it's one of my favorites, and I thought it was a good one to start this website. I'll post some new photos soon enough.
Back when 1Day1Photo was simply a way for me to keep up with friends through text (I would manually edit the photo, send it to my phone, and send it individually to each of my contacts), I was especially trying to create a more wholesome alternative to Snapchat Streaks and nonstop social media scrolling.
To get this photo, I walked outside for about an hour during sunset. This is called golden hour, and it's such an easy hack for making photos look special. Admittedly, this photo was taken a bit after sunset, which is why the trees and the road are all in silhouette.
If I remember correctly, I placed the camera on the sidewalk, which runs next to a road, and took the shot when there weren't any cars. Nothing's in super-sharp focus, but I think that adds to the effect.
When I do photowalks, I often don't realize which one is the best photo until I get home and sort through them. At least for that photowalk, I didn't have a specific shot in mind. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
Thank you for visiting this blog! Reply by email, subscribe via RSS, or join the 1Day1Photo newsletter, where you can get this photo a week before the internet does :-).
Cheers,
David
