Day 16: Cheeky Squirrel
2026-02-22
Hello! With an impending storm coming in my area, I find myself reminiscing about the warmer months.
This photo is special because of how well it all lined up. A friend of mine challenged me to find some animal to take pictures of, and I brought my big zoom lens intending to get pictures of birds. But this was too good an opportunity to pass up.
I wandered around randomly in a community park. There was a children's playground nearby, a soccer field, and some picnic benches. As always, I stayed decently far away and tried not to be a nuisance — I was alone and walking quietly, so it's not really a surprise that the squirrel didn't scamper away.
To get this photo, I stayed stationary for a minute at a time, patiently getting closer. The squirrel was eating something (seeds, probably?) and you can see some food left on their whiskers.
Squirrels eating seeds is a particular annoyance to me, though — last year, I set up a bird feeder in my backyard. Squirrels learned to climb the thin pole and grab on to the feeder, spilling seed on the ground. The whole tube feeder was empty within a few days. I better do something about that, but I don't know what.
Thank you for visiting this blog! Special thanks to the newsletter subscribers; you get this photo a week before the internet does :-).
Cheers,
David
