Black railing separates a snow-covered overlook and an icy river. Winter trees make up the background.

Day 34: River Lookout

2026-03-12

Back at the wharf...

Hello!

Standing on this wharf, it felt like a museum or special touristy overlook. But rather than looking over a city or nature reserve, it was the Delaware river, cold as ice. I took this photo because I wanted to compress the background and foreground. In reality, the river is big, but you lose that sense of depth at a direct angle like this — the trees don't look too far away.

Other than that, not much to say today. I'm currently out across Pennylvania with my family, and I'm suffering from a huge lack of sleep. I've got loads of cool photos, but I don't have the brainpower to write articles on my travels just yet. I'll post my thoughts soon.

Instead, I'll list three short thoughts that have been rattling around in my head for a short while now. First, about my blog writing: I'm trying to be conscious about my word choices and such, especially after reading Stephen King's strong perspective regarding adverbs. In short, don't use them.

I realize that Stephen King was referring to dialogue, but I monitor my adverb usage anyway. Clearly, I've got some pruning to do.

A draft of this blog post, with adverbs marked in a red color, dripping blood.
This free writing application was suggested by Forking Mad. It works fully offline.

Anyway, I've got a music recommendation for you today. The second short thought is "I like Led Zeppelin now". I've heard of their music before, and I've played Stairway to Heaven in a previous life, but I recently sat down to listen to their four self-titled albums (I, II, III, IV). And now I'm looking to get some CDs. Great.

Finally, a kute kitty that struggles to load on my computer. Let me know if it's working for you — it worked last week when I was home!

Thank you for visiting this blog! Special thanks to the newsletter subscribers; you get this photo a week before the internet does :-).

Cheers,
David
