Shelves of children's books and LEGO sets are displayed in a toy store, under a big, colored, light-up sign reading "PLAY".
Taken on 2026-03-09. Many years ago, I would have been excited to see all these toys. Now, I wonder about the prices.

Day 42: Kids Play

2026-03-20

Hello!

After the silliness of teens at public events, let's go even younger and look at a toy store.

This stuff used to interest me. LEGO bricks would inspire creativity if you bought a bunch of bricks and mixed them together. I never made anything super special, and the kits made a more impressive result, but being experimental and building something ugly made my brain work harder as a kid. I think that's a good thing.

I haven't used LEGO bricks in years now. This display of expensive toys feels distant to me. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it's made me aware that I've moved on.

Nothing lasts forever.

And the PLAY letters. Displayed in all caps, they're filled in with lit C-9 bulbs that you find for Christmas. Some people don't like the colors those give, but I think they're used in a pretty cool way.

Finally, some more font creativity, because everything art is cool. Including fonts. I don't pretend to be an expert on any of it, but I'll happily link to someone else who's doing really great work with unique fonts.

Cheers,
David
