Day 122: The Dice Present a Harvest

2026-06-08

Hello! Look, I had a lot of dice. This photo even lines up with the day number!

Well, I had to say goodbye to a lot of people. That doesn't have to be a bad thing — I like to think of it like rebuilding an intricate clockwork of gears that make up the machinery of my human soul. I'm already feeling better.

Every so often, I consider starting anew and building a new identity. I regret choosing this name for my website. I always had a thing for the name "Maria Roland" — a completely fictional name that has become the protagonist of several of my dreams and short stories, including one I've cloaked on this website. If I ever change my legal name and create an online persona, that'll be it.

I have weird dice, which I think were pulled from some custom game in a box that has since been trashed. These dice have actual numbers on them, not the pips on traditional dice. And they go beyond six; any digit can be represented on them, which suggests to me that they had some specific purpose.

That purpose today is to read out today's day! It's been 122 days since I started this photo series, and I even had to change the full archive page on my website to go back all the way to Day 1. It's been consistent on a daily pace every since, with only a few articles released late by an hour or two.

In the meantime, I'm taking photos on a warm summer day.

Even on a cloudy day, you can go where the greenery is, or where the people are, and take some great photos. Mateusz from Poland did just that, and I really like his video editing style. With a short video clip on the right, a single frame is selected to be a photo to capture still motion. I just think that's really neat.

Finally... well, I'm self-promoting my tip jar this time 'round. For reasons that will be better articulated next week, I'll be pushing for many donors to each pitch in any little bit to help me pay the invoice for an unexpected and unfortunate cost...

Those who become a paid supporter, whether through a one-time tip (the default) or through a recurring subscription (contact me and we'll sort it out), will get access to the Originals, full-resolution images and raw camera files to edit, print, and inspect. I've got some great images lined up for the next few weeks, and if you want to support this work, it would be appreciated. I've got bills to pay.

Cheers,
David
