Day 7: Spiky Trunk
2026-02-13
Hello! I had some free time on my hands, so I went in the New Jersey woods this morning.
I'm pretty sure the photo editing program I used today must add saturation or something, because it did not look this vibrant out of camera. I might experiment with it later to see what they do behind the scenes.
Color in general is a really weird thing for me. I realize every screen is calibrated differently, each camera and lens combination has its own artifacts or style, and each photo editing process makes small changes behind the scenes, but it is really difficult to make something look true-to-life.
Don't even get me started on printing. At a base level, it doesn't really matter, but if you're looking for professional-quality (or even above average), there's research to be done. Your choice of printer, paper, ink, and software all matter — I'm sure there's other factors that I didn't mention that can skew how a photo looks on a screen or in your hand.
And now, a personal request. Tomorrow, I'll be taking away the first article of 1Day1Photo's email-locked status. It will be publicly available on the Internet, no signup required. I've run tests before, and I think I've got the technical side handled, but if you read this, please go through all my pages and posts and check that I haven't made obvious errors (like spelling and grammar or leaked personal information). If you've spotted something, contact me directly.
Thank you for visiting this blog! Special thanks to the newsletter subscribers; you get this photo a week before the internet does :-).
Cheers,
David
